NORTH TO ALASKA –Dawson Creek, BC to Fort Nelson and Liard River Hotspring Provincial Park, BC & Watson Lake, YT

TRIP DAYS – 20, 21, 22
DAILY MILES  -  282 – 188 - ?
TOTAL MILES – 3579 - ?

7/4HAPPY 4TH OF JULY – Today was a travel day.  We left Dawson Creek at 6:30 AM and headed up the Alaska Highway 282 miles to Fort Nelson, BC.  By 1:00 PM we had checked in the Triple G RV Park and were making lunch.  Our intentions were to visit the local museum, but after checking we decided it was just a repeat of the one in Dawson Creek.  Wayne spent his afternoon on the Kindle and napping and I made potato salad and researched trip information for the next few destinations.  Tomorrow we head north 188 miles to Liard Hot Springs for a soak.
7/5 – July 5 – Dusk is now coming around 11:00 PM and dawn about 4:00 AM.  With 19 hours of daylight our sleep schedule has changed and we are awaking around 5:00 AM.  This has us pulling out of the campgrounds about 6:00 AM which was what we did this morning.  We headed to Liard River Hotsprings Provincial Park via the Alaska Highway through the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia.  The drive was fabulous and very productive as we saw a black bear, stone sheep, mountain goats, caribou, moose, and a buffalo.  Most of these were beside or in the highway which is basically a two lane winding “country” road with steep grades and gravel shoulders.  I am amazed that this is the only road headed to Alaska.  We only see big tanker trucks or other RVs.  No wonder basics supplies and meals are so expensive if this is the route they must travel.
In route we stopped at Tetsa River Outfitters for their world-famous cinnamon buns and coffee.  This place resembled a log cabin country store from the 1950’s, but lived up to their claim on the buns.
On arrival at the park we found a campsite and headed to the hot spring.  The water was 127 degrees at the source but cooled down as it progressed downstream.  We soaked for over an hour and then took the quarter mile boardwalk back to the campground where we had lunch and a nap.
7/6 - Arrived in Watson Lake, Yukon and put up our sign in the Sign Post Forest.  We are now waiting at the Northern Lights Centre to see the presentation and then plan to move on toward Whitehorse.  The RV park we planned to stay in here burned down in April so we'll get in some more miles and find a park down the road.  More on this later.
