FLORIDA 2015 - MYAKKA RIVER STATE PARK - SARASOTA

We departed the Florida Keys and headed northwest to spend one night each at Everglades National Park and Collier-Seminole State Park on the Gulf Coast. A stop in Naples, FL for lunch with our KY neighbors, Joe and Sharon Mallek was a highlight. Then we headed about 100 miles north to our present location at Myakka River State Park near Sarasota. Arrival here allowed us to connect with Aliner friends from Knoxville, TN, John and Amy Seagraves. We spent three days visiting together before their departure for home. We’ll be here until Feb. 8th when we head to Highlands Hammock State Park for a week with friends attending “Scamp Camp”.
The weather remains perfect for biking and hiking. Sunny days with highs in the 70’s and cool nights make this paradise for someone like me who hates cold weather.
I'll upload some pictures when we get out of the park and have a better Internet connection.

Florida Keys - Curry Hammock State Park #2

The week was spent exploring the Oversea Bike Trail that can be accessed across the road from Curry Hammock SP.  The absence of a traffic light requires patience and good judgment to reach the trail safely.  We have clocked two five mile rides, one north the other south.  Plans have us riding south again this week to have lunch at one of the seafood restaurants in Marathon that looked interesting.

Curry Hammock SP has a small beach and picnic area and that’s about it.  The campground has only 26 spaces and the sites are mostly occupied by folks in Class A motorhomes, here to avoid winter.  The only time you see anyone out of their unit is at the bathhouse.  The lack of park activities would probably have us returning to one of the other parks we have visited in the Keys.

Other than bike riding outside the park, I have been working on completing a quilting project and knitting baby hats for the hospital.  Wayne spends his day reading and trying to get sports news on the computer.  It is nice to see something accomplished at days end.

Florida 2015 Trip - Marathon Key - Curry Hammock

Today begins our second week in Florida.  We spent three nights each at Fort Clinch State Park (SP) and Jonathan Dickinson SP.  Luckily we moved south before the cold front hit Florida.  Our time at Dickinson was used to wash and wax the RV which took most of two days.  Yesterday we moved into the Florida Keys and are camping at Curry Hammock SP where we will be for the next two weeks.  This morning was spent on the beach watching about 20 kite surfers.  Tomorrow we hope to bike a few miles beyond the park to scout out the local entertainment possibilities.

NOTE:  Our HOTSPOT has died and we will be updating this blog only when we can get WIFI connections, usually at local McDonalds.
