LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES RALLY - OCT. 2015

MOVING-ON-DOWN - BACK TO TENT CAMPING

We just attended the annual Fall Rally at Land Between the Lakes in Dover, Tennessee hosted by Dennis and Susie Archer.  There were 54 trailers and one tent in attendance.  Guess who was back tent camping. We sold our Winnebago View in April as soon as we returned from our annual Winter trip to Florida.  Our plan is to down-size the traveling and camping trips and stay on this end of the United States now that we are no longer youngsters.  We'll see how long that plan lasts. . . . .

Trip to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & PEI - Day 12

Traveling south through Maine and Massachusetts brought us to Newport, Rhode Island. Our sailing cruise this afternoon provided sweeping vistas of Newport’s “Gilded Age” mansions, a 19th century military fort, and beautiful old lighthouses. Shopping, sight-seeing and dining occupied the remainder of our day. We are overnighting in Newport, RI.

Trip to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & PEI - Day 11

Yesterday was mostly a travel day. Before heading back into the states, we stopped off in Moncton, New Brunswick to visit the strange Magnetic Hill, where we appeared to defy gravity. Travel days are when we "make miles" while watching movies, listening to music, reading and knitting. We overnighted in Bangor, Maine in a nice Marriott Inn.

Trip to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & PEI - Day 10

Today started with a driving tour of Halifax City with brief stops at the Citadel Fort and Fairview Lawn Cemetery where some of the victims from the RMS Titanic are buried.

Our next destination was Peggy’s Cove, an active fishing community with houses perched along a narrow inlet facing the Atlantic. Its famous lighthouse on top of the giant rocks with the sea waves crashing in was totally engulfed in dense fog.   This is the first time the weather has not cooperated during our trip. Daytime temperatures have been in the high 60's - low 70's with sunshine each day.

Next, we stopped for dinner at the Sou’ Wester restaurant. This restaurant offers traditional maritime and seafood meals. We are overnighting in Truro, Nova Scotia and will head back through New Brunswick into the United States tomorrow.
